Davis, the nation's leading scorer at more than 28 points per game, has made national headlines in recent weeks in his pursuit of Pete Maravich's 53-year-old NCAA record for career points (3,667). Davis, who leads the country in several statistical categories, broke the NCAA mark for 3-pointers made in a career (588) earlier during the 2022-23 season.

The Titans won their first game in the Horizon League tournament, 81-68, over Purdue Fort Wayne, with Davis scoring 38 points in his final game at Calihan Hall. Detroit Mercy was edged on the road in its next tournament game, 71-66, at Youngstown State with Davis finishing the game just three points shy of Maravich's record (3,664 career points).

Among those who were included in video and in-person tributes for Davis at Calihan Hall during the jersey retirement ceremony were Titan Hall of Famers Earl Cureton, Spencer Haywood, Eli Holman, Rashad Phillips and Terry Tyler.

Detroit Mercy President Donald Taylor helped unveil the No. 0 banner with Davis during the ceremony. Davis was the 11th men's basketball student-athlete to have his number retired.
