University Ministry

University Ministry assists the entire University community in living out the Detroit Mercy mission, especially as it seeks to integrate the spiritual, ethical, and social development of students with their intellectual learning.

All programs and activities are open to people of all faiths. While the Ministry office provides special services to the Catholic community, its mission is to support people of all faith-traditions in their spiritual development. The Ministry team is present to students in a variety of ways from their first orientation through their baccalaureate ceremonies. Activities include liturgies; prayer and worship services; overnight and on-campus retreats; faith-support groups; guest lecturers; pastoral counseling; faith-based political action; community volunteer services; Hunger and Homelessness Week; domestic and international service immersion trips (Alternative Winter and Spring Breaks); residence hall programs; and university-wide religious celebrations, such as . Chapels and mosques on each campus are available for quiet prayer and reflection, as well as scheduled services.

In the spirit of the Mercy and Jesuit religious founders and sponsors of the University, Ministry department activities promote compassionate service to persons in need, service of faith and promotion of justice, and that dialog of cultures and religions which seeks the respectful harmony and cooperation of persons of all backgrounds and traditions.
