Information for Graduate Students
PLEASE NOTE: Graduate students must be enrolled at least half-time in graduate level courses, applicable to their degree, to be eligible for federal aid.
A graduate student attending Áù¾ÅÉ«Ìà may apply for financial aid to help meet their educational costs. Aid may be available from one or more of the sources listed below.
Students desiring financial aid consideration should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early as possible each year beginning October 1st. You may complete the .

Loans
Direct Unsubsidized Loans (minimum 4.5 credits required per term)
Unsubsidized loans of up to $20,500 or the cost of attendance minus other aid (whichever is less) each academic year. No loan payments are due until 6 months after the student graduates, leaves school or drops to less than half time. A completed FAFSA is required to be eligible.
Federal Graduate PLUS Loans (minimum 4.5 credits required per term)
Graduate PLUS Loans are credit based educational loans up to the cost of attendance minus all other aid. No payment is due until 6 months after the student graduates, leaves school or drops to less than half-time. A completed FAFSA is required to be eligible.
Private Alternative loans (cost of education less all other aid)
Educational loans through private banking agencies; based upon creditworthiness of borrower or co-signer. Each program has its own set of guidelines for eligibility. The Private Loan section of this web page offers additional information.

Work Study Jobs
PLEASE NOTE: For applicable work study jobs, there must be a minimum of 4.5 credits required per term.
A number of part time jobs are available to students who wish to earn funds to help meet their college expenses. Students may work on campus, or off campus at a Detroit Mercy approved site. Students may work up to 20 hours/week while enrolled at least half time. Work study is need based and due to limited funding is awarded based on FAFSA date. A completed FAFSA is required to be eligible.

Graduate Assistantships
Several departments on campus have openings for graduate teaching or research assistants who can receive up to full tuition remission. Please contact the department you are interested in, directly.
School Educator's Tuition Remission Discount
Institutional aid in the amount of 60% of tuition costs for a full-time teacher, substitute, administrator, counselor, paraprofessional, teacher's aide or ed tech in a public or private educational center enrolled in a program certifiable or endorsable for teaching by the State of Michigan.
A new application must be submitted each term by the following deadlines:
- Fall: October 1
- Winter: February 1
- Summer 1 or 3: June 1
- Summer 2: July 1

Vendor Discounts
A 25% tuition discount is available to the full-time employees, spouses and dependents of various companies that do business with the University. This discount may not be combined with any other Detroit Mercy scholarship, grant, tuition remission or tuition discount. Professional students in the Dental programs are not eligible. A current list of approved vendors is available in the vendor discounts section on this site.
Forms must be submitted each term no earlier than one month before the start of the term and by the deadline listed on the form.
Religious Discounts
Persons serving in ministerial capacities, whether ordained or laity, may be eligible for the 50% Detroit Mercy Religious Discount. Eligibility is limited to religious, clergy, lay persons serving a parish or congregation full-time, enrolled in courses directly related to their ministerial work (ex. Religious Studies). Part-Time and Volunteer students in one of these positions must show evidence of a substantial quantitative and qualitative commitment to their ministerial work.
A new application must be submitted each term by the following deadlines:

- Summer 1 or 3: June 1
- Summer 2: July 1
