Minor in Health Information Management and Technology
Description
The 18-credit hour Health Information Management and Technology (HIMT) minor is available to students currently pursuing a Detroit Mercy major in areas other than Health Information Management and Technology.
By adding this minor, a student with a computer science-based major can expand his or her employment opportunities to the healthcare sector. Alternately, students with health care majors in Nursing or HSA can expand their employment options with health information management and technology skills to become administrative leaders within the HIM healthcare workforce.
With an HIMT minor, you will gain proficiency in healthcare data analytics, standardized healthcare nomenclature, healthcare reimbursement and information governance as applied within the global scope of health information management and health services administration.
All classes in the Health Information Management and Technology minor adhere to the curriculum recommendations of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Commission on Accreditation of Health Informatics and Information Management (CAHIIM), American Billing Association (ABA), Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AACP) and provide instruction in health information management skills, which will allow students to sit for multiple internationally recognized credentialing examinations.
