Biography
Dr. Yaukpala Gofan began her career as an assistant professor in Áù¾ÅÉ«ÌÃ's College of Health Professions in 2018. Her clinical experience as a registered nurse includes medical, surgical and cardiothoracic intensive care. As a nurse practitioner, Dr. Gofan’s clinical practice experience includes a hospitalist role for internal medicine at Karmanos Cancer Institute.
In her free time, Dr. Gofan enjoys listening to audiobooks and traveling. She loves that diversity, equity and inclusion are an integral part of the Detroit Mercy. She believes the best kept secret of Detroit Mercy is the beauty of its campus and the architecture and history of its buildings.
The thing that motivates Dr. Gofan to work on a daily basis is her compassion to educate future nurses.

Research Interests
Dr. Gofan's current scholarship focuses on the strong empirical support that telling aspects of one’s life story has positive emotional and physical health effects. Surprisingly, limited research has been conducted on the effects of telling a cancer survivors' story through the eyes of African American women diagnosed with breast cancer. This two part (cross-sectional and longitudinal) project will assess the emotional health effects of African America females telling their cancer survivor story
